The Carisbrook Lions Club has placed a lion statue in front of their entrance as a symbol of remembrance to previous members.
Lions club president Jefferson Hoober said the statue has deep importance to the club.
“We do not want people to think that we have forgotten about these people that have helped get our club going or have helped along the way,” he said.
“If they did not put in so many voluntary man hours, we would not be as successful as we are now.”
Lions member Jean Bovell said she is hopeful the garden will be a happy place of memory for the whole community.
“It is a great place for us and the families to have somewhere to come and reminisce about those people special to us,” she said.
One of the club’s former members is Ian Hoyland, who died in a two car collision at Talbot last year.
Mr Hoober said this adds extra meaning to the statue.
“Ian was one of the guys that loaded the lion onto my trailer, so it is even more of a passion as to why we have got to make sure this is happening,” he said.
Lions charter member Ian Robertson said that people like Ian make the lions club so special.
“It hurts to miss those people, but we have got to pick up the pieces and move on, however we are not going to forget those guys because we are in debt to them,” Mr Robertson said.
The club also plans to add roses and a plaque to the memoral garden at the start of next year.
