On previous evidence for Maryborough Soccer Club this season, expect this week’s game against Creswick to go down to the wire at Jubilee Oval. I

n their last meeting in round two under lights at Creswick, that’s exactly what happened, but it wasn’t the result that Maryborough were hoping for.

On that occasion, Riley Gardam gave Maryborough an early lead, but goals to Damien Saw and Nelson Grixti gave Maryborough heartbreak as they saw their lead evaporate, before the winner came deep into the second half of stoppage time.

Since then, Maryborough have remained competitive for a large portion of the season.

The ladder perhaps doesn’t quite reflect that. With big losses against top three teams Forest Rangers and Ballarat North United, it accounts for 27 goals in their -31 goal difference, whereas in their other seven games, they have conceded just 15 goals.

Maryborough’s home form has also been rather strong, recording a win, a draw, and a number of competitive games.

While they had a setback in their last start against Ballarat North United, losing 6-0, the blue and whites will be hoping to bounce back and move off the bottom of the ladder ahead of their second, and final, bye of the season.

Elsewhere, Maryborough’s under 14s will travel to Pleasant Street to take on Ballarat Black.

The two teams are separated by two points, but the two teams have vastlty different characteristics, with Maryborough the third best offensive team in the competition with 37 goals, while Ballarat Black have been more of a defensive team, conceding 35 goals for the season.

The two teams last met in round two, with Maryborough taking a 5-3 win. Joravar Dhanju scored a brace, while Jacob Antolini, Brayden Martin and Darcy Wood were also goalscorers on that occasion.

Maryborough’s under nines will also be travelling this week, with Maryborough Blue returning from a long wait to play again with an away game against Victoria Park Blue at Victoria Park, while Maryborough Gold will travel to Wendouree West to take on Forest Rangers Green.
