CAMPBELLS CREEK 5.4 (34) def by NEWSTEAD 24.11 (155)
Newstead travelled to Campbells Creek on Saturday and were successful in their quest to keep their finals chances alive, winning by 121 points.
A fast start for the Steaders was essential, and they were able to deliver with five of the first six goals to open up a 26-point cushion at the opening change.
Campbells Creek were able to play one of their better quarters of the year as they kept Newstead honest, with both teams scoring two goals. However, it was the Steaders who led by 28 points at the main break.
The floodgates opened in the last half as the Steaders slotted 17 second half goals to just two goals for Creek.
Rhys Smith was unstoppable around the ground and was named as Newstead’s best player, and others among the best were Dillon Hinge with his 10 goals, Sam Reece, Jedd Pedretti, and Adam Hunter.
Creek’s best were Brodie Burke, Dylan Stevens, Kyle Gellatly, Ryley Mills and Matthew Manning, with Gellatly kicking three of their five goals.
