Trentham have all but punched their ticket to the finals, scoring an important 24-goal victory over Maldon on Saturday.

With Newstead, Royal Park and Maryborough Rovers closing the gap on both teams in recent weeks, a victory for both would prove important in the context of their season, and it was the Saints that proved to be the better team from quarter time onwards.

Maldon’s first quarter proved to be their best of the afternoon, scoring 14 goals to 12 to take a narrow quarter-time lead.

However, unfortunately for the Bombers, they were unable to contain a second quarter burst from Trentham. The Saints would score 19 goals, while restricting Maldon to just six, to ensure they would turn the tables and lead 31-20 at half time.

The Saints continued on with the job in the third quarter, scoring 13 goals to nine to take a 44-29 lead going into the final change.

A further 18 goals to nine in the final period ensured the Saints would take a much-needed victory and importantly boost their percentage in case of disaster over the final three games, now ensuring they sit two games and almost six per cent ahead of the Bombers with their 62-38 victory.

The best players were not provided by print deadline.

Morgan Walker was Maldon’s leading goalscorer with 20, while for Trentham, Elysia Rose led the way in the goal circle with 33 goals.
