Trentham is the team to beat in finals after holding off Natte Bealiba by 21 points in round 12.

This was the game of the round with the first versus second clash painting a picture of what may come this MCDFNL finals series.

Trentham took an early lead, winning the first term 2.3 (15) to 1.1 (7) from the visiting Swans in freezing and wet weather conditions.

Natte repeated their score perfectly in the second while the Saints got 3.3 (21) on the board to lead by a comfortable 22 points at half time.

The pill was hard to wrestle out of the mud and onto the boot for both teams, with a very even third term seeing Trentham kick 2.2 (14) and Natte kick two goals straight with 24 points the Saints way the difference at the final change.

The Swans had another two successful shots on goal in the fourth, wasting no attempts and outscoring the Saints who kicked 1.3 (9) to come out on top.

Vote getters for the home victors were Zac Gervasoni, Joel Cowan, JackMighell, Mark Strickland, Ryan Bourke and Harry Knight with Jake Keogh kicking three goals and Bourke kicking two.

A key to the win for Trentham was keeping Natte’s leading goal scorer Danny Brewster goalless, a feat no other side has managed this season, however Will Holt shouldered the load for the Swans with three goals and Jordan Fraser, coach Zeik Johnston and Jacob Long each kicked one.

Jayden Templeton had a cracker of a game, as did freshly 21-year-old Zak Mortlock, Callum Harte, Tom Roughead, Brodie Johnson.

The Swans have dropped to third place on the ladder due to their second loss of the season and will fight their way back up over the closing four home and away rounds, starting with Talbot this weekend.

Also in round 13, Trentham faces Maldon in a game where they’ll be looking for a 12th victory to maintain their standing on top of the ladder.
