A nine-goal to nil third quarter gave Trentham great drive as they took a comfortable victory over Navarre by 64 points at the Navarre Sports Complex.
The Saints burst out of the blocks to kick five goals in the opening quarter, compared to Navarre’s solitary effort, to lead by four goals at quarter time.
The second quarter was perhaps the closest of the day, with Hoppers looking to get back into the game by kicking three goals, yet the Saints seemed to have all the answers as they added another four to lead by 27 points at the long change.
The Saints came out of the rooms in the third term with devastating instinct, putting together their best quarter of the early season with nine goals, while holding the Hoppers to a solitary behind, as they increased their lead to 83 points at the final change.
Trentham took their foot completely off the gas after that, but it was job done for the Saints, with Navarre adding four goals to two to improve the scoreboard, and reduce the margin to 64 points.
The Saints had 10 individual goalkickers for their 20 goals, with James Regan leading the way with four, while Jake Keogh and co-captain Mark Strickland kicked three apiece. Perhaps more pleasing for them was their goalkicking accuracy for a second straight week — 20 goals from 26 scoring shots, giving them 43 goals from 56 shots in their first two games.
Thomas Fuller, Ryan Thiesz, Hugo Hall, Regan, Harrison Knight and Joel Cowan were named as the Saints’ best players.
For Navarre, Sam Rickard and Jack Jess kicked two goals apiece, while Jayden Fowkes, Kyle Hendy, Rickard, Wil Clough, Brady Tillig and Nick Birthisel were named in their best.
