Central Goldfields Shire primary schools have banded together to support children transitioning from kinder to primary education, coordinating open days at each school from today until August.

The initiative comes from Go Goldfields which teamed up with all local primary school principals to produce the Kinder to School 2023: A Guide for Families.

The guide includes links to all local schools, dates and times of open days, questions to ask when you go, and tips for to help families prepare — copies of the guide will be distributed to families through local kinders in the coming week.

“Open days are a great opportunity to see the school operating, meet the principal, see the facilities, and have a walk around the grounds,” Go Goldfields manager Carolyn Bartholomeusz said.

“They are also really useful for asking questions and ensuring that the school is the right fit for your child and family.

“Once children are enrolled, they will be invited to participate in transition days organised by each school. These are really important for to reduce anxiety, make friends and see what going to school is all about.

“It is important to get enrolments in early, particularly if your child has any additional needs. It also helps give children the certainty of where they are heading next. Preparing early means transition can be as smooth as possible for everyone and ensure supports can be arranged for when your child first starts.”

Enrolments are now open for all schools and information on how to enrol is available from each school and at the open days on:

• Maryborough Education Centre today and July 28 from 9.30-10.30 am
• Bealiba — May 15, 9.30-11 am
• Dunolly — May 18, 9-10 am
• Carisbrook — May 19, 9.30-10.30 am
• St Augustine’s — May 23 and May 24, 9.15-11 am
• Talbot — May 30 and August 15, 9-10 am
• Timor — June 2 and August 19, 9-11 am.

The Kinder to School 2023: A Guide for Families comes off the back of the recent Go Goldfields project Central Goldfields Transitions Plan — Ensuring a Great Start to School for All Kids which saw schools, kinders, allied health providers and social support agencies team up to create a plan that helps children and families transition from kinder to school more easily.

The project set out an approach and professional commitments to help create successful transition experiences in the shire, which increases children’s resilience and helps disrupt cycles of social and economic disadvantage.
