Scott set to stay at Dons after AFLW trade interest

While garnering significant interest from Richmond during the AFLW trade period, former Avoca local Paige Scott is set to remain at Essendon after a late bid to land them fell through.

Note: Paige Scott has since declared for the upcoming AFLW draft after production deadline on Thursday, where it is likely they will go to Richmond.

The trade period ended at 4 pm on Wednesday afternoon, at which time negotiations between the Bombers, Richmond and St Kilda were deadlocked after days of rumours surrounding Scott’s uncontracted status for 2025.

However, it was reported on afl.com.au late on Wednesday that a deal, which would have seen Scott move to Richmond, Emelia Yassir move to Essendon and Amber Clarke move to St Kilda, fell through.

A move to the Tigers would have completed what’s been a fascinating trade period for the club after finishing seventh and were eliminated in the first week of the finals, who controversially traded three-time runner-up best-and-fairest Eilish Sheerin to premier North Melbourne for pick 18.

Essendon also made the finals for the first time in the AFLW competition in 2024, taking the final spot in the top eight, but Scott was unable to play in their week one loss to Fremantle.

Earlier, they played seven matches for the Dons, averaging nine disposals and 2.6 tackles per game, with a best performance of 15 disposals and a goal in their week six victory against Sydney.

That has seen Scott now play 28 games for the Bombers after they were drafted in 2022.

Scott is now expected to remain with Essendon with a new contract to play in 2025 and beyond.
