With the help of community support, the 1st Maryborough Scout Group were able to send six scouts to New Zealand for the trip of a lifetime.
The scouts, aged between 11 and 15, along with three supporting adults formed part of the Australian contingent that headed across the ditch in December and January.
On this journey, they spent some time exploring Auckland before moving on to the Jamboree in the Waikato region.
Some of the activities local scouts were able to participate in while at the Jamboree included rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking, sailing, driving diggers, mud runs, riding quad bikes, shooting, archery, cooking and badge swapping.
After the Jamboree, the scouts were able to spend a week on post-tour where they went white water rafting, zip lining, kayaking, exploring New Zealand’s bush, caves and volcanic history. They were also able to participate in a cultural dinner where they learnt about Maori culture.
Each of the local scouts who attended the Jamboree brought their own highlights home with them, with white water rafting the favourite activity for Alex.
Caitlin, Jen and Dom said their favourites included the quad bikes, archery, shooting and car demolition activities.
Isaac loved the visit to Hobbiton from The Lord of the Rings and Ruben thoroughly enjoyed zip lining through the New Zealand bush.
All in all, the trip was an incredible experience for all involved, with the 1st Maryborough Scout Group expressing their thanks to the community for their support and helping to put the biggest smile on local scout’s faces.
