The Maryborough Senior Citizens Club will showcase its wide range of activities next week as it hosts an open day as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival.
The club will throw open its doors at 52 Alma Street, Maryborough next Thursday for interested residents to get involved and learn more about what the club does.
At present, the organisation boasts a wide range of activities throughout the week including indoor bowls, bridge, craft, hoy, table tennis, social tai chi and luncheons, among others.
Maryborough Senior Citizens Club member Veronika Miles said the open day is an opportunity for all community members to learn more about the club.
“The open day is free to anyone who wants to know more about what we do, we’re having a Devonshire tea and showcasing what we’re about,” she said.
“Senior citizens is for people aged over 55 only, but younger people are welcome to come and get involved too.
“We’ve got community singing group, the Serendipity Singers performing on the day and will be handing out fliers with details of the activities we run.”
The club currently has around 140 members and Veronika said the activities the organisation runs are a way for residents to stay active and enjoy social interaction.
“It is a really good way to stay social which is important as you get older,” she said.
“Why sit on your own when you can have a bit of fun and meet new people?”
The Victorian Seniors Festival is a state-wide festival for Victorians aged over 60 and focuses on providing fun and good times with opportunities to participate in events and activities throughout October.
As in past years, this year’s festival features online perfor-mances, radio plays, interviews and unique music performances as well as in-person experiences.
Alongside the Maryborough Senior Citizens Club’s open day, comedian Denise Drysdale will also perform at the Maryborough Highland Society next Monday, October 10 from 11.30 am until
2.30 pm. While a free event, bookings are essential and can be made at 5461-1480.
The Maryborough Senior Citizens Club’s open day will run from 1 until 4 pm next Thursday, October 13.
