Maryborough Soccer Club had good patches against Ballarat North United, but were unable to stop a 6-0 loss at Jubilee Oval.

The blue-and-whites had a very encouraging first half an hour, generating a couple of oppor-tunities, while also defending resolutely.

But when the first goal was scored, the floodgates opened, and Ballarat North United soon put four past Maryborough to end the first half in a comfortable position.

Ballarat North United started the second half with gusto as well, scoring another two goals, with Charlie Richardson scoring a hat-trick, while further goals to Talan Flockhart, Jamie Coxall and Santiago Ferreyra Bas allowing the Panthers to play at a comfortable pace.

However, Maryborough held out to ensure that the Panthers weren’t able to match their 7-0 win in the opening game of the season.

Meantime, Maryborough’s under 14s launched a late bid to come from behind, but it wasn’t quite to be as they lost to Ballarat North United 3-2.

The blue-and-whites trailed 2-0 at half time, but thanks to Darcy Wood, who scored a brace, stormed back into the game, before eventually losing by a goal at Russell Square.

There will now be a break in the competition for the school holidays, with Maryborough returning on July 14 when they host Creswick.
