Soccer club off to Ballarat
Player unavailability and injuries beset Maryborough last week, with the team unable to field a starting 11 against Bacchus Marsh.
Maryborough will now look to rebound against Ballarat this week, travelling to Pleasant Street to tackle a team who they were quite competitive with in their first meeting of the season.
That day saw Maryborough play in a historic game at Princes Park in round six, with Ballarat making the most of their opportunities to go two goals up, before Garry George set up a grandstand finish by scoring a penalty.
However, Ballarat would soon restore their two-goal cushion, and finished up a 3-1 winners.
In the under 14s, an entertaining, high-scoring matchup didn’t quite go the way of Mary-borough, eventually losing to Bacchus Marsh Blue 7-4.
Darcy Wood and Joravar Dhanju both scored a brace in a game where scores were locked up at three goals apiece at half time, before the class of the Scorpions showed.
Maryborough will now meet ladder-leading Ballarat Red in a difficult assignment as the curtain-raiser.
