The game was very competitive for the large part, and it was only a couple of moments of brilliance which separated the two teams.

Daylesford started the better, however, and were able to generate an early goal in the first 15 minutes with a good finish.

However, Maryborough were able to get into the game, and had some good looks at goal. But it looked like they were going to go unrewarded until the shadows of half time, where a scramble from a corner left Johno Melton unmarked, and he scored from a free header to make it 1-1 at the break.

Both teams had their looks in what was a free-flowing game in the second half. Although wet conditions also played its part, both teams were able to move the ball with precision, and that resulted in multiple chances.

However, nothing was forth-coming until there was just under 15 minutes to go, with Daylesford putting together a goal from a terrific header to take a 2-1 win.

The result means Maryborough stay on the bottom of the ladder for now, but will seek to move off for the time being next week with a trip to Bacchus Marsh.

Maryborough’s under 14s fought hard, but were unable to prevent Daylesford from taking a 4-0 win.

The blue-and-whites gave it everything against the second-placed Daylesford, but two goals in both halves meant that it was always going to be a tough task for the afternoon.

The blue-and-whites will travel alongside the seniors to take on Bacchus Marsh Blue next Sunday.
