Soccer club take memorable final-round win
Maryborough made their final game of the 2024 Ballarat District Soccer Association season a memorable one, cruising to a 4-0 win over Victoria Park.
While the win doesn’t change their status as wooden spooners, the blue-and-whites can take enormous amounts of optimism going into the 2025 season, knowing that they are able to compete against all teams in the competition.
It was the first half that did all the damage for Maryborough as they ran riot and did what they pleased, with goals from David Scofield, Garry George and Joshua McClelland allowing them to lead 3-0 at the half time break.
Another goal in the second half allowed Maryborough to finish with their second win of the season — both against Victoria Park.
Pleasingly, the blue-and-whites have been able to score in their last six games of the season, while more importantly, this was their first clean sheet of the season.
On a terrific weekend for the club, the under 14s also had a terrific finish to the year, scoring a 2-1 victory over Vikings Blue at St Georges.
The terrific season of Darcy Wood continued as he netted his 22nd goal of the season — enough for fifth in the competition, while Brayden Martin also scored as Maryborough held their 2-1 half time lead throughout the entire second half, and finished in a credible sixth position.
