The senior and junior vote counts have been run and won at Maryborough, with the juniors presented with their best and fairest trophies on Friday night, and the seniors learning their fate on Saturday night.
In the senior football vote count, a tense count saw Joel Swatton and Kya Lanfranchi head-to-head throughout the night, before Swatton powered away to take an unassailable lead with one game to go.
Despite Lanfranchi polling maximum votes in the Magpies’ 240-point loss to Gisborne on Saturday, it was not enough to overhaul Swatton, who polled 60 votes in his first season at the club, after joining from South Bendigo in the off-season, and was named in the best 12 times in a great season across the midfield.
Lanfranchi was runner-up after an outstanding campaign in defence, often taking the best forwards in the competition to task, polling 58 votes, a reflection of being named in the best players in 13 matches, ranked fourth in the competition.
Brady Neill finished third in the count, polling 34 votes after a year which saw him named in the best on nine occasions.
The A grade netball count was a dramatic affair, with long-time leader Tori Chandler getting out to a big lead, before injury set in which ruined her final handful of games for the year.
In her absence, Amanda Durbridge was able to poll maximum votes in her last six games to take the best and fairest by just one vote from Chandler, winning with the last vote card of the night.
Durbridge and Chandler both enjoyed good seasons leading an inexperienced Maryborough A grade lineup with their versatility through the midcourt proving to be a highlight throughout the season.
Goal shooter Keely Hare took third place on the night with 14 votes, holding up her end of the bargain by leading the goalscorers count for the club.
In the reserves count, Brady King capped off a good first year at the club by winning with 49 votes, overhauling captain Kellan Maffescioni, who was runner-up on 44 votes, while Brett Forti finished third on 32 votes.
In B grade, a tight count between Chloe Egan and Shayla Bandy was resolved in favour of Egan, who polled 31 votes, while Bandy polled 27 votes. Maddi Dwyer finished third, polling nine votes.
Similarly, it was a tight count in B reserve, with Molly Palmer winning on 24 votes, winning from Ruby Adams and Abbey Klemm, who polled 19 votes apiece to share second place.
In the under 18s football, Tom Myers capped off a dominant season to win with 62 votes, with Oscar Tatchell runner-up on 41 votes and Damon Nitschke third on 34 votes.
And in the 17 and under netball count, Ella Patten took the win, polling 38 votes in a good count, with Millie Cassidy second on 28 votes and Abbey Nalder third on 25 votes.
The junior vote count was held on Friday night, with many of Maryborough’s best youngsters sharing in trophies on the night. In the under 16s count, the year was dominated by Zac Cicchini, with the excitement machine polling 140 votes to win from Cooper Mark, who finished second on 80 votes, while Logan Howell polled 72 votes to finish third.
Howell won the most versatile trophy, while Campbell Wood, who finished fourth, was most consistent. Will Soulsby won the most courageous, Cale Wright won the most determined and Jasper Trickey took the coaches award.
The under 16s bravely gave it everything in their first final against Golden Square on Sunday, eventually going down by just 20 points, and have another chance this week against South Bendigo.
In the under 14s competition, Oliver Cassidy won with 153 votes, with Dechlan Bridges polling 105 votes and Hayden Bartlett polling 48 votes in third.
Bartlett was awarded most consistent, with Chase Larkin most promising, Jayden Humphrey most versatile, Kaleb Jardine most disciplined and Aidan Davis taking the coaches award.
The under 14s will now look towards their first finals match up with South Bendigo on Sunday.
In the under 12s competition, Cruz Stevens was the first winner of the night, polling 117 votes to win from Jack Smith, who polled 87 votes, while Ed Boyes was third with 78 votes. Will Smith was the most improved player, with Cooper Howell taking the best team player, Boyes taking the most consistent award, Maddox Stevens taking the most determined, Tyson Smith taking the coaches award and Jai Andriske best clubman.
