Talbot took a stirring come-from behind win against Dunolly to strengthen their finals cause, keeping in touch with the top four in the process.
In a must-win game for both teams, it was Dunolly who got off to the better start, kicking five goals to two in the first quarter to lead by 18 points at the first break.
Slowly but surely Talbot were able to get themselves back into the game during the second quarter, and sure enough, added four goals to the Eagles’ two to reduce the margin to six points at the long break.
With the game on the line, it was the Hawks who made all the running, kicking four goals while reducing the Eagles to just two behinds, and as a result, they turned for home 18 points in front.
Dunolly made one last pitch to pinch the win, kicking two goals from six scoring shots, while holding Talbot to one goal, but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks held on.
Jude McGuire has been a very solid contributor for the Hawks in the season so far, and was best on ground on this occasion, while Trent Severino, Adam Scott, Sam Hitchings and Lachlan Ratcliff were also good. Matthew Bond was the key forward on the ground, kicking five goals.
For Dunolly, Lloyd Needs, Hamish Richards, Daniel Trull, Seth Galvin, Jordan Waldron and Connor Sheppard were their best, with Mitchell Goodwin, Toby Johnston and Riley Murphy kicking two apiece.
