CARISBROOK 12.7 (79) def NEWSTEAD 7.10 (52)

A very strong first half for Carisbrook set up a 27-point victory over Newstead on Saturday at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve.

Both teams had ten shots on goal in the first half, but accuracy around the goal mouth had the Redbacks kicking 10 goals straight to Newstead’s 3.7, which had a strong bearing on the outcome of the game.

Newstead proved to be the more dominant team in the second half as they outscored the Redbacks by eight points, but the damage had already been done in the first half of the game as the Redbacks held off the challenge to remain in third place on the ladder.

Newstead is in ninth position on the ladder but will be confident of posting their second win of the season when the tackle their arch rival Maldon next week, while Carisbrook will have a tough encounter with big improver Lexton who sit just two rungs below them on the ladder.

Carisbrook’s best players were Andrew Toan, Darcy Bond, Richard Zelencich, Dean Chester, Jackson Bowen, and Brady Neill, with Chester kicking four goals.

Newstead named Adam Hunter, Cordie Mckendry, Steven Shovan, Harry McGuire, Mason James and Austin Peace as their best players, with Kerang recruit, Michael Runciman kicking three goals.
