Strong times across the board in second triathlon event
The Maryborough and District Triathlon Club conducted the second event on its 2024/25 club championship season from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday, September 15 in cool blustery conditions which challenged triathletes on the eastern sections of the cycle leg and provided great support on the westerly sections.
Event distances were long course (2 km run, 8 km ride, and 400 m swim), and short course (1 km run, 4 km ride, and 200 m swim).
In the open male long course it was a very entertaining and enthralling competition between Josh Britten and Cooper Mark. Cooper took a slender lead on the run leg only to see Josh power ahead on the cycle leg and establish a significant gap moving into T2.
Josh was able to maintain his lead in the swim leg to post the fastest time of the day (33:18) to touch in first place. Cooper maintained his form in the swim as well to post the strong time of 35:28 to finish in second place overall.
In the 50+ female long course category it was Jane Anderson who produced a blistering cycle leg to set up the very strong time of 40:45 to finish in first place.
Regional triathlete Michelle Scott also enjoyed the course with a strong three discipline performance to touch down in the impressive time of 41:56 to win the open female long course.
Young Harry Scott also produced an outstanding first up performance to take first place in the under 16 male long course category in a time of 45:40.
Ella Govan, participating in the under 16 female short course category, displayed top form to win this category in the outstanding time of 23:52.
The third event on the 2024/25 club calendar will be a long course triathlon from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday October 13.
Course distances will be long course (400 m swim, 20 km ride, and 4 km run), and short course (200 m swim, 4 km ride, and 1 km swim).
