Students take a creative trip to town
Amphitheatre Primary School students brushed up on their art skills with a visit to the Central Goldfields Art Gallery.
Students first experienced the natural beauty of the new garingilang gatjin wii Indigenous Interpretive Garden last Friday, before gazing upon sparkling artworks courtesy of The Art of Gold exhibition and creating their very own locket artwork.
The school’s teacher Nicole Fenton said the excursion was a colourful experience for the students.
“We do art as a class at school and I thought it would be nice to come in and visit a gallery as well as make a connection with Maryborough,” she said.
“Amphitheatre is a small community so a lot of the kids don’t get to come out and see [Maryborough], the kids were just amazed at the size of the hospital.
“Sometimes I think we miss out on some of those [opportunities] because we aren’t in a big town.
“I know the art gallery is working on having some things on in the school holidays and we have a few kids who are a bit artsy and I’m hoping they might come over and join in.”
The excursion was made possible courtesy of a free bus funded by a Loddon Campaspe Student Excursion Fund grant.
According to Central Goldfields Art Gallery coordinator Helen Kaptein, the gallery provides students with a unique, local connection with various forms of art.
“The vision for the gallery is to be an innovative and inclusive place for the residents of the Central Goldfields Shire,” she said.
“What we can do here is provide that positive early experience for children to connect with art and all of the benefits that it brings.
“The bus arrived in our loading bay as we always dreamt of and the children have gathered in garingilang gatjin wii so they have that outdoor experience.
“They come into the gallery and look at these artworks that relate to this place and the children can do some painting based around what they have seen in the exhibition.”
