Students’ work goes on show
Avoca Primary School students will show off their strokes of art to the public at Gallery 127’s upcoming exhibition.
The inaugural showcase titled Hart’s sixth Sense: Landscapes, is inspired by the techniques of Australian artist Pro Hart which were studied and used in class to create the displayed artworks.
Avoca Primary School art teacher Suzanne Blackie said the exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for the grade six students.
“I think the students were absolutely amazed by the opportunity of being able to have their work in a gallery because usually that is for the top artists,” she said.
“They are really excited just to be part of the community and to enjoy the official opening where they can invite their parents along and show what they have been learning.
“I think they will become more confident in producing art, but also gain a sense of pride for their art and their school work as well.
“We hope to have more exhibitions in the gallery over the next few years and hopefully more children will have this experience.”
A Robo birds collection will also be on display, which was produced by students of all levels with the prompt ‘what if birds were robotic’.
The exhibition builds on the partnership between the school and gallery caretakers Avoca Community Arts and Gardens following the Find an Ant campaign which infested the community last November.
According to arts and gardens president Hugh Forster, the showcase will create childhood memories for the participating students.
“The whole idea was to give the kids exposure into what it’s like to see their artwork properly framed and presented as if it was an adult exhibition,” he said.
“Rather than have a one off, we are trying to see if we can develop with the school a collaborative ongoing special exhibition.
“This experience will be part of their long term memory of their time at school and their art endeavors.”
The Hart’s sixth Sense: Landscapes will officially open next Tuesday, August 13 from 12.45 pm and will be displayed at Gallery 127 until the end of September. Entry is free with nibbles and drinks provided.
