Maryborough enjoyed some strong success at the recent 8 Ball Country Cup, held in Ararat two weeks ago.
Four divisions played off for titles, with Maryborough entering teams in division two and division four, while a Carisbrook team was also entered in division four.
Maryborough 2 was well represented on the division two ladder, finishing second at the end of the round robin games with a 5-3 record.
The team of Rodney Flett, Jason Smiley, Eddie Peck, Warren Berry, Steven Shovan, Jason Stewart and Richard Clarke performed well, with Flett in particular impressing with seven wins from eight games.
Unfortunately, they were unable to go through to the final, losing in the semi-final stage to Sandhurst 4-2.
There was better success for Maryborough 1 in division four, however, going through to take the title after a dominant campaign which saw them lose just once.
Sam Waugh was particularly strong across the tournament, going through undefeated from his eight games, while teammates Matthew Vadala, Rod McClean, Bradey Tranter, Daniel Vadala, Philip Ward, Daniel Petter and Brett Pickering also performed strongly across the weekend.
After finishing on top of the ladder at the end of the round-robin games, Maryborough 1 defeated Clarkefield 4-1 in the second semi-final, then proceeded to defeat Horsham 2 4-2 in the grand final to take the trophy.
Carisbrook’s campaign in division four saw them finish seventh with a 3-5 record, with the team of Marshall Murray, Lochie Broad, Jim Punch, Peter Weston, Steven Murray, Tim Broad and Holly Freeman proving competitive with three wins from their last five games.
