Successful Clunes tournament
Clunes Golf Club recently held their women’s tournament, and have celebrated having their biggest tournament for ladies in over 20 years.
This year’s edition of the Margaret Fox Memorial Trophy was Clunes’ third edition since it was introduced in 2022, and it is a four ball better ball stableford competition.
The participation levels have grown in recent years, and Clunes are hoping it continues into the future. In 2024, 28 women took to the course.
The trophy represents the start of Clunes’ annual tournament, with play held on Tuesday, August 6.
Chalambar Golf Club’s Francesca Suffield was the winner of the Margaret Fox Memorial Trophy with 36 points, with Clunes’ Christine O’Donnell runner-up on 35 points.
The tournament also goes into the four ball better ball pairs competition, with O’Donnell and Kew’s Shirley Tucker winning on 42 points on countback from Suffield and Bernie Fitzpatrick, while Annie Lamb and Lorraine Ardley, from Midlands, finished in third on 40 points on countback from Maryborough’s Maree Baker and Ballarat’s Kristie Kennedy.
Clunes also has a nine-hole, par-3 event in the ladies day program, which is suited for women who do not have a Golf Australia handicap, but wish to participate, with Heather Cupp-Lynch winning this year from Cathy Parkin.
