CAMPBELLS CREEK (30) def by TALBOT (72)

It’s a phrase which can be uttered for the first time in the A grade competition in years, and thoroughly deserved after the B.A Road Services Talbot Hawks put together a dominant 42-goal win — the Hawks are in the eight.

The scale of the Hawks’ 42-goal victory at Campbells Creek Recreation Reserve meant that they were able to jump Trentham into eighth spot on percentage ahead of an important stretch of games which could yet decide whether the Hawks get into the finals or not.

Talbot got a flyer by scoring 19 goals to seven in the first term to establish an early 12-goal break. Dom Roche was busy underneath the goals, scoring 13 for the term, while Eleisha Phelps scored six. For Campbells Creek, Lillie Wrigley scored five goals and Molly Kennedy two.

The Hawks’ dominance was even more ominous in the second term, scoring 22 goals to four to increase their lead to 30 goals at the main break, 41-11. Roche and Phelps scored 10 goals apiece, while Tia Skelton scored two goals for Talbot, and for Campbells Creek, Wrigley scored three goals and Tarni Williams one.

Campbells Creek were able to stem the bleeding a little bit in the third term, but the quarter still belonged to Talbot, scoring 13 goals to nine to lead 54-20 at the final change. Roche scored 10 goals and Skelton three for the Hawks, while Wrigley scored six and Kate Blake three as the Magpies shuffled around their goal circle combinations.

The final quarter saw Talbot ease home, while Campbells Creek had their best offensive quarter of the day, but it was still an 18-10 quarter the Hawks’ way. Roche scored 11 goals to finish with 44 for the afternoon for the Hawks, while Skelton scored seven goals. For Campbells Creek, Wrigley scored six goals to finish with 20, while Blake scored four goals.

The Hawks now have a crucial home game against Navarre, while Campbells Creek will head into the bye.
