Talbot set to Light Up on Friday
The streetscape of Talbot will start to feel a lot more like Christmas this Friday as the Light Up Talbot festival makes its return.
Now running for half a decade, decorative lights are set to sparkle in beautiful gardens and on historic buildings across the heart of town with live music and entertainment to commemorate the return of the festive season.
Supported by the Central Gold-fields Shire Council and Talbot Action Inc, event organiser Amanda Wedgewood said she expects the festival to be as exciting as ever.
“We try to have a new theme every year and this year our theme is ‘Food, Dance, Song’,” she said.
“While we still have the focus on music, we have got more of a focus this year on ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
Celebrations kick off at 5 pm with performances from the Talbot Primary School and Maryborough Education Centre choir.
From 5.45 pm, Cirque Mystique’s Elf Twinkle Toes will perform a Christmas-themed circus, followed by performances from the Brothers Bishop Band, Ballarat Vocal Studio, Back Creek Band and a fire breathing show.
Street food and drinks will also be available to visitors while enjoying the glistening display.
Ms Wedgewood said the community-oriented festival is made possible by the kindness of residents.
“We like to very much concentrate on the locals — it’s a Talbot event and it’s for the Talbot family,” she said.
“We started during COVID when things were very tough and the idea is to light it up and bring a bit of joy and enchantment into what can be a tough time at the moment.
“There are various people who are very generous with their assistance, people are providing us with a scissor lift for four days which makes a huge difference to us.
“I had a lovely lady who bought me lights and other Christmas ornaments who went out and bought them just for the event which is lovely.”
The Light Up Talbot Christmas Festival will take place this Friday, November 29 from 5 pm. Entry is free.
