Teams ready to duel for premiership success
It’s a big day on Saturday for nine supporter groups as the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League grand finals have arrived.
Natte Bealiba, Trentham and Avoca will be the headline acts when the Swans take on the Saints in the senior football grand final at 2.50 pm, while it will be a classic rivalry when the Bulldogs and Swans do battle in the A grade grand final at 3.15 pm.
However, there are a multitude of teams looking to bring home grand final glory.
Carisbrook will be represented in six grand finals, with the reserves, under 17.5, under 14.5 and under 11.5 football grand finals, as well as the B grade and 13 and under netball finals.
The Swans are represented in five grand finals, with the C grade, 17 and under and 15 and under netball teams joining their senior counterparts in the decider.
For others, the chance to make history is on offer.
That especially rings true for the Maryborough Giants, who will be participating in two grand finals in their first season, with the 13 and under grand final and B grade grand finals their first ever deciders at both a junior and senior level.
Elsewhere, Harcourt will be represented in two grand finals, facing off in reserves football and the 15 and under netball, while Newstead will start the morning in both the under 11.5 and 11 and under netball grand finals.
Maldon will be in two grand finals, with the under 17.5 football team looking to repeat their 2023 premiership success, while their 17 and under netball will also do battle.
Trentham and Avoca will also have two teams each — the Saints and Natte Bealiba won’t just be doing battle on the football field, with the C grade decider also featuring both teams, while Avoca’s under 14.5 footballers join the A grade netballers in a grand final.
Navarre will have one team represented on grand final day, with their 11 and under netballers doing battle.
With dry conditions forecast, it looks like a good day for the best of the best of the MCDFNL to do battle on grand final day.
Read our grand final insert from pages 15-26 in today's edition of The Maryborough District Advertiser for a more detailed look at the games which will define the MCDFNL’s grand final day in 2024.
