The Maryborough Tennis Centre recently hosted members of the Fiji junior national tennis squad over Easter.
Members of the squad were in Australia visiting the Williams Landing Tennis Club, who then contacted the centre’s Tennis Australia coach, Brian Carr, in order to experience and play on grass courts. The boys are based at the Viti Tennis Academy, with their coach, Krishneel Kumar, accompanying them.
The squad were able to warm up through Carr’s additional experiences in martial arts with a 45 minute session at the Maryborough Sport and Fitness Centre, before taking to the courts.
The coaches were able to put together some advanced tennis drills, before playing matches.
Carr said the opportunity to learn about tennis in Fiji was fantastic in shaping his own experience.
“It was great to learn from the team about tennis in Fiji and discuss their opportunities and facilities compared to Australia,” he said.
While in Australia, the squad of nine has also been playing UTR tournaments and visited the Melbourne Tennis Centre around the Melbourne Park precinct.
After playing some further tennis tournaments following their stay in Maryborough, the squad departed Australia on April 14, but not before putting together some unforgettable memories.
