The Central Goldfields Shire Council made the call to upgrade its 822 mercury vapour streetlights to LED lights at a cost of around $350,000.
A 10 carriage freight train hauling 2200 tonnes of grain derailed at Emu, near Bealiba. The derailment caused significant damage to a section of the track, with V/Line anticipating the line to be closed for several weeks while repairs took place.
Maryborough’s Energy Breakthrough event received a bronze award at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
A Golden Wattle Drive, Maryborough home was burnt to the ground — with emergency services able to save neighbouring properties.

Councillor Geoff Lovett expressed his concern over the ongoing drought, which at this point had run for seven consecutive years. Of particular concern were a number of 100-year-old trees in Phillips Gardens, seven of which had died and a further 23 were regarded as severely stressed.
A dramatic siege unfolded in Burke Street, Maryborough with police, CFA and ambulance on standby. A man was arrested and charged with possession following the incident.
Land in the new residential subdivision at Ghost Gums Estate in Maryborough experienced significant demand, selling more quickly than it could be developed.

Completion of Avoca’s new $300,000 hospital was expected by the end of the year. The hospital was constructed on a donated block of land, taking up one-and-a-half acres.
Patience & Nicholson Ltd shared their plans for expansion, which would see the local business increase employment by 80 to 100 people.
