It was 10 years ago this month that state water minister Peter Walsh announced over $500,000 for the first stage of a flood management plan for Carisbrook.

Maryborough business Sonac expanded its export business, and was on track to triple its throughput.

Over 500 staff at Patience & Nicholson, Maryborough’s largest industry, went on strike — demanding a $10 wage increase.

The Dunolly Fire Station was officially opened in July of 1974 at a cost of $26,000, with the building still used by the brigade to this day.

Maryborough’s council of the time agreed to support the Golden Wattle Festival, which went on to become a long-running success story for the town and region. The annual event was attended by thousands for a number of years.
