The Talbot Farmers’ Market celebrated its 10th anniversary in March, 2014 and just as it did back then, the market continues to go from strength to strength as it prepares to mark its 20th year.

In more solemn news, 31-year-old shearer and former Avoca resident Ross Streeter was jailed for 34 years over the double murder of his father and uncle at the family’s Natte Yallock farm.

In tragic news from 10 years ago, a 24-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a truck in Bung Bong.

2004

Back in 2004, the Central Goldfields Shire Council defended its decision to issue parking ticket fines during a Market Affair event, with residents and visitors alike arguing it was offensive and was not supportive of the market.

After an 80-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car in High Street, Maryborough, questions were raised around the safety of pedestrian crossings in town. The council of the time said the design of the crossings was not the problem, which instead lay with speeding drivers.

The Maryborough Railway Station secured a significant $800,000 in funding from VicTrack to see the station restored.

1974

An application from the Ratepayers Protection Association calling for a 20 percent reduction in rates was denied by the Maryborough City Council.

The Maryborough Citizens Brass Band was named one of the best in the country, coming second in B grade of the Australian championships.
