A new council plan sought feedback on reducing the speed limit in Maryborough’s CBD to 40 km/h.
A crowd turned out to traverse the newly opened footpath between Carisbrook and Maryborough.
Works got underway to construct the Talbot Railway Station ahead of passenger services being reintroduced. Maryborough’s railway station got a mention too — featured on a new stamp.
Royal Park Football Netball Club won the 2013 Energy Safe Victoria Country Club of the Year Award.
Maryborough product Matthew Dellavedova officially became an NBA player, named on the Cleveland Cavaliers roster. On the AFL front, Stewart Crameri signed on with the Western Bulldogs.

14-year-old Rowena Hubbard became the 14-17 year state champion at the Victorian Taekwondo Championships.
Construction began on Highview College’s $1.2 million arts and technology building.
Peter Cain was awarded the 2003 Rural Finance Corporation scholarship for his outstanding results at university.
Barker Trailers announced plans to set up a factory in Maryborough, which still operates today.

The 81st Maryborough Show was marred by wet weather and mud. Maryborough was recorded as the coldest place in Victoria that day.
The Maryborough Junior Fire Brigade won Under 14 grand aggregate for the second year running at the Annual Open Junior Fireman’s Demonstration.
The region experienced some of the worst flooding since 1956, with the Avoca River, Bet Bet Creek, Tullaroop Creek and McCallum’s Creek all in flood.
The Maryborough Football Netball Club offered council $24,466 towards the cost of a “huge” sporting complex at Princes Park. Mayor of the day AG Leech commended the club for its efforts.
