The third Full Monty was a roaring success.

It takes nothing short of stark naked ambition to raise a record breaking amount in the face of an all time low turnout — and with $50,000 in the bank, the remarkable feat is exactly what last week’s Full Monty has achieved.

The event’s third iteration, held on June 15, was a massive success, with six local men and six women baring it all to collect crucial funds for the Maryborough District Health Service’s (MDHS) oncology unit.

Between standing ovations, tears, laughter and entertainment, the night saw close to 250 people in the audience cheering on for all 12 performers.

Their support, along with auctions, raffles and public donations, led to around $50,000 being raised — the highest in Full Monty’s local history.

This achievement came despite the record low attendance, with past figures more than 300.

According to organiser Nick Weaver, all in all, it was an incredible event.

“It was an absolutely fantastic weekend,” he said.

“We were happy with the audience and we knew we were going to be low on numbers because there were other events on but honestly we couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.

“The money we’ve raised through this event is the highest ever so I’m feeling wonderful — it was more successful that I thought.”

While raising funds for MDHS is at the core of the Full Monty, another significant feature of the show is extending support to everyone affected by cancer in the community.

“All our performers get up and tell their story about how they’ve been impacted and why they decided to participate,” Mr Weaver said.

“That seems to cut pretty close to people’s hearts and for some, it’s pretty raw still because they may have just lost somebody.

“It’s always emotional, it’s also about camaraderie and friendship. We’re now the Full Monty family — together with the performers and the audience who back us.”

Although donations for the third edition are still open, Mr Weaver has already set his eyes on the fourth event.

“Next year could be bigger, with more performers and even more attendees,” he said.

“We are planning on changing the date, we will probably hold it in March or April before the school holidays so there’s no clash with other events.

“It’s just great to be an annual event that is so well-supported — we’re doing something year-on-year to make a difference.”
