CARISBROOK (52) drew with AVOCA (52)

A Maddy Egan goal on the final siren salvaged a draw for Avoca in a pulsating, end-to-end encounter with Carisbrook.

It was a thrilling start to the game, with Avoca holding a slight lead at quarter time, having scored 14 goals to 13.

The Redbacks were the ones who made the first significant move in the second quarter, scoring 17 goals to the Bulldogs’ 11 goals to sit pretty at half time, up by six goals.

But Avoca continued to fight, and were rewarded by cutting the margin to just two goals at the final break. They scored 14 goals, while Carisbrook scored 10 of their own.

The final quarter saw both teams fight to preserve their strong spot on the ladder, with Carisbrook scoring 12 goals, while Avoca scored 14.

In the end, neither team could be separated.

The draw preserves Carisbrook’s unbeaten start to the season, but they also lose top spot on the ladder ahead of a massive game with new ladder-leaders Natte Bealiba this Saturday.

Paige McLean scored 31 goals for the Redbacks, with Andrea Schafer scoring 21. For Avoca, both Gina Beavis and Egan scored 26 apiece.
