This National Water Week, a wave of creativity swept through the region’s schools as part of Central Highlands Water’s (CHW) poster competition — with three local students diving into victory by nabbing prizes.
CHW hosted the contest to mark the annual initiative which kicked off on Monday, with the week-long campaign aiming to build awareness within communities around the value of water.
Around 90 students from seven schools in the CHW service region, including the Timor Primary School, participated in the competition by creating posters based on the theme for the 2023 National Water Week — United by Water.
From saving water or watering the garden, to recreational water use and water in the environment, students interpreted the theme in different ways through their artworks.
These posters translated into winning pieces for Timor Primary School students’ Isabella and Aylah who secured first and second place respectively in the Prep group — with their senior, Adeline winning the runner-up position in the Year 1 and 2 category.
All three students will receive gifts cards worth $100 for first prize and $50 for the second.
“I drew water stuff and coral,” Isabella said.
“I’m very excited to win the main prize and get a voucher.”
Adding to the excitement, Aylah said she also gained important information through the competition.
“We learnt about being safe around water and using water wisely,” she said.
“You also need to drink lots of water to be healthy.”
