With a big day expected for tomorrow’s Charity Round at the Highland Society, the games are set to be even bigger.
DIVISION ONE
The showstopping event of the day sees top-two teams Highland Tartan and Dunolly Blue meet. While the latter has been runaway leaders all season long, a Highland Tartan win will see them close to under a game of Dunolly Blue in second.
But a Dunolly Blue win will all but end the minor premiership race with just three rounds to go after this weekend.
Similarly, a Dunolly Blue win could yet open the door for Avoca Red to pinch second position when they play Dunolly Gold.
A loss for Dunolly Gold will all but confirm their relegation to division two, sitting 38 points behind with 64 points on offer.
An important clash for a potential spot in the top four sees Talbot Gold and Newstead Blue meet. Currently, Talbot Gold sit 16 points ahead of fifth-placed Maryborough Golf Blue, while Newstead Blue are just four points further in arrears, meaning a Newstead Blue win would tighten up the race for the final spot in the top four.
Another significant matchup in the race for fourth sees seventh-placed Highland White meet Golf Blue, with White sitting just 22 points outside of the top four, and still very much a chance to make the finals. A Golf Blue win will see them keep their own finals chances alive, so it’s an important clash for both teams.
DIVISION TWO
Matching division one’s drama-charged season, there will also be a top-two battle in division two in this weekend’s showpiece round, with Highland Red looking to maintain their gap on the rest of the pack against Golf Gold.
Highland Red currently sit 24 points clear on top, but a win for the in-form Golf Gold will see them close to within one game. Similarly, Golf Gold will be aiming to keep the chasing pack at bay.
An important clash sees third-place Carisbrook up against fifth-placed Avoca Gold. A spot in the top four is on the line for Avoca Gold, while Carisbrook will also look to take advantage of what happens in the aforementioned battle between Highland Red and Golf Gold.
Taking advantage is something Talbot Brown will also be aiming to do when they face bottom team Newstead White. A win for Talbot Brown could see them move as high as second depending on results, but they could also fall outside the top four if they lose, and Avoca Gold wins the sufficient amount of rinks.
Maldon and Dunolly Green have the slightest chance of making finals, and can keep their hopes alive with a win when the two teams meet. Dunolly Green would need to win their final four matches convincingly to harbour any chance of making the top four, while Maldon are a game further ahead, and can move up to fifth depending on what happens in the Carisbrook and Avoca Gold meeting.
