Trentham were the big beneficiary of the weekend’s A grade netball, moving up to fifth and securing a spot in the finals by defeating Talbot.
The Saints now sit three games and percentage clear of Navarre with three games to play, and while they can still mathematically miss out, it seems unlikely given they have games against bottom six teams in the Hoppers, Royal Park and Campbells Creek in their final trio of games, meaning they can prepare for a likely elimination final berth.
It was a bit of a shaky start for the Saints on Saturday, who scored 11 goals, with Talbot staying very much in the game by scoring seven.
The second quarter was quite even for both teams, with Trentham scoring nine goals and Talbot eight to leave the game evenly poised at half time, with the Saints leading by five goals.
But the Saints came out firing in the second half, putting the game away in the third quarter by scoring 15 goals to six to extend their lead to 14 goals, before finishing off the game by scoring 17 goals to five.
Sharna Ford dominated in the goal circle, scoring 27 goals, while Charli Copeland scored 14 and Hayley Bourke scored 11.
For Talbot, Dom Roche led the way with 17 goals.
