Trentham underlined their class to move into third position on the senior football ladder with a 74-point victory over Lexton at Trentham Reserve.

The Saints gradually broke down a wasteful Lexton throughout the first three quarters, before putting the foot down in the last quarter to really blow the margin out.

Lexton certainly had their opportunities in the opening term, but could only manage one goal from six scoring shots. It proved costly, as Trentham were able to add three goals from seven scoring shots to open up an 11-point quarter time lead.

Trentham were able to start gradually building up the lead, and added four goals in the second term to the Tigers’ two to make the lead 24 points at the long break.

The Saints were economical in front of goal in the third term, kicking four goals from five scoring shots, while the Tigers were only able to add one goal. While the scoring shots suggested Trentham had 19 shots to 14, their accuracy was telling as they took a 40-point lead going into the last change.

This was where the Saints kicked away, kicking seven goals to one in the last term to move into third, and such is the closeness of the ladder this season, the loss for the Tigers meant that they slotted back to fifth after starting the day in third position, ahead of a big trip to Carisbrook.

Zach Gervasoni provided plenty for the Saints, and was named best on ground, while James Regan passed 50 goals for the season with his haul of six to maintain the lead in the goalkicking race. Bryce Hinneberg, Joel Cowan, Jake Keogh and Joel Dovaston completed the set of best players for the Saints.

Lochlan Pett continued his recent good form for the Tigers, named as their best player, while Bryce Karslake, Joel Antonio, Jordan Phelan, Alex McLean and Ben Noonan were also named in the best.
