It was a night of celebration for the Maryborough District Triathlon Club as they recognised their winners for the 2023/24 season, with Josh Britten (back left), Jeffrey Beer (back right), Cooper Mark (front left), Ella Govan (front middle) and Kate Cain (front right) all taking home silverware for a job well done throughout the season.

The Maryborough and District Triathlon Club recently celebrated its achievements, both as a club and on an individual level, at the 2023/24 club championship presentation dinner.

The club was pleased to produce yet another exciting year of triathlon competition and participation including the increasingly popular KIDZ triathlon for the region’s budding young triathletes.

The club’s championships were highly contested with new champions being crowned as well as past winners enjoying outstanding seasons again.

Several categories had extremely close results as well with little separating winners from the second and third place-getters.

In the open male championship category it was Josh Britten who produced yet another stellar season to achieve a back-to-back victory in this category after achieving his first open victory in 2022/23.

Kate Cain enjoyed a strong season as well taking out the 2023/24 open female champion for the first time in her triathlon career.

In the under 16 female club championship it was Ella Govan who took out the award for the fifth time after enjoying another competitive season, and Cooper Mark achieved his fourth under 16 male club championship award.

Both young triathletes have proven a natural ability in the sport, and can look forward to continued development and success.

Club championship coordinator Adam Lowery stated, “It was another great season of triathlon participation and competition, and with several new members joining and showing outstanding improvement in their triathlon form this translated to some great results throughout the season.”

Best club person was awarded to club event volunteer Aaron Britten for his unwaivering service to the club over many years at the monthly club events. Club president Martin Mark stating, “The ongoing success of the club depends on the support of our vital club volunteer marshals, and Aaron is always willing to help when he can.”

The championship dinner was a further celebration of Jeffrey Beer’s recent achievement coming 3rd in the 40-49 age grouping in the 2023/24 Victorian State Triathlon Championships. Jeff will continue his triathlon development in the 2024/25 season with several exciting and challenging events planned as part of his ever improving triathlon career.

Club secretary Jen Barras stated, “2023/24 was once again an exciting year for the club as it continued to provide opportunities for local and regional people to come along and experience the sport of triathlon in a friendly and supportive environment.”

The club would like to thank all its volunteers, supporters, and sponsors for their support, without this the club could not provide the participation opportunities and outcomes that it does for the local community.

The club has produced its 2024/25 club calendar of events with the first event being a Duathlon from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday, August 11.
