The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club held its 2021/22 Championship Presentation dinner at the Bull and Mouth Hotel on Friday night, celebrating their 21st season in the process.
Adam Lowery became open male club champion for the third time, with his two long course wins throughout the season propelling him to the title, scoring 45 points, with Jeff Beer ranked second on 36 points, and Josh Britten third on 30 points.
In the open female class, Jaclyn Beer was able to be club champion in her first year at the club, scoring 24 points thanks to a short course win, as well as two podiums, to win the award.
Cooper Mark proved too strong in the under 16 male category, with his one long course win and three short course wins helping him score 56 points, while three short course wins allowed Ella Govan to become a three-time under 16 female champion, scoring 41 points.
Emily Ryan added to her illustrious tally of club champion awards, adding her third 50+ female club champion award on top of her three time open female club champions. Two long course wins and two short course wins saw her score 45 points to win the title.
The encouragement award was awarded to Rubie Hooper, who graduated through the KIDZ triathlon program, while finishing runner-up in the under 16 female category.
The best club person award was awarded to Wayne Ryan for his outstanding service at club events for six years.
The club was also able to mark achievements outside of the club, with Martin Mark recognised by Triathlon Victoria as a finalist in their club volunteer award, as well as celebrating Josh Britten’s achievements in the Regional Secondary School Triathlon in Boort in March, where he recorded the fastest time of any triathlete on the day on his way to winning the year 11/12 male category.
Club secretary Jen Barras, in the club’s press statement, was ecstatic for the club’s achievements this year.
“2021/22 was once again an exciting year for the club as it continued to provide opportunities for local and regional people to come along and experience the sport of triathlon in a friendly and supportive environment,” she said.
“We were all surprised and delighted to acknowledge that our 21st birthday will be marked in September this year, something that seemed so unlikely at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Maryborough & District Triathlon Club now looks ahead to the 2022/23 season, and has released its calendar for their schedule. Their first event will be a reverse triathlon held from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre in August.
