The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club conducted the second event of its 2023/24 club championship season, a reverse triathlon, from the Mary-borough Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday, September 10.

The long course format involved a 2 km run, 8 km cycle, and 400 m swim, and the short course 1 km run, 4 km cycle, and 200 m swim.

In the open male long course it was Josh Britten and Jeff Beer who all enjoyed the calm weather conditions to post strong times.

Little separated Josh and Jeff throughout all triathlon disciplines with Jeff eventually touching the finishing line with the fastest time of the day (33:18) to win the open male long course category. Josh was seconds behind in second (33:43).

Greg Croft, competing in the 50+ male long course category, also enjoyed the conditions finishing in the impressive time of 37:40, with Ella Govan continuing to excel, touching down in 39:32 to win the U16 female long course category.

Matthew Cain, who started with an impressive run leg, continued strongly throughout the short course to win the open male category in the impressive time of 23:43.

U16 female triathlete Rubie Hooper also enjoyed the event conditions finishing in the second fastest short course individual time of the day of 24:48 to win her category.

Kate Cain produced a strong three discipline performance completing the short course in 27:17 to win the open female category.

One team also participated, the Mark team (Martin, Cooper, and Sienna), finishing in 22:54 to win the short course. This was young Sienna’s first experience of club triathlon, and will hold her in good stead for future events.

The next club event will be traditional long course triathlon involving a 400 m swim, 20 km ride, and 4 km run on Sunday, October 8 from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre at 9am.
