Poppies won’t be the only thing on display in Avoca over Anzac Day weekend with the town’s popular art exhibition returning after three years with organisers putting out a call for volunteers.

Presented by the Avoca Community Arts and Gardens (ACAG), the Avoca Arts Festival is scheduled to be held from Friday, April 21 to Tuesday, April 25 at the Avoca Town Hall — with the first day reserved for an evening awards announcement followed by a public opening at 10 am from Saturday, April 22.

The festival will offer an extensive program filled with art activities spearheaded by the Avoca Art Show and Sale, together with Gallery 127, located at the town’s heritage listed railway station.

The renowned Tiny Towns Arts Trail event will feature on the same weekend (including an exhibition at Gallery 127), allowing visitors to take a sneak-peak into local artists’ working spaces.

To make the show a success, ACAG is urging locals to sign up as volunteers after numbers dwindled post-COVID.

Organisers said that support is sought ahead of the event to assist in receiving art, setting up hanging frames and dismantling and cleaning up after the show concludes.

Those interested in volunteering with the Avoca Arts Festival can contact ACAG by emailing them on artsavoca@gmail.com or calling 0439 462 344.
