The Maryborough Volunteer Resource Centre (MVRC) has gained access to a new space in High Street in its mission to promote volunteering and volunteer roles in the shire.
The MVRC have secured tenure of the former Pyrenees Premium Cuts site in High Street until the premises are leased again, thanks to the building’s proprietor, and are now using the window space of the building to showcase volunteering positions.
MVRC spokesperson Lyn Curry described the shop window space as invaluable to community groups as a means for advertising their volunteer vacancies and promoting their organisations.
“The shop front is in an ideal position and is already getting plenty of attention from passers-by,” she said.
“We are inviting community groups and volunteer organisations to bring along posters, notices, advertisements for volunteer vacancies and special events so that we can display them clearly in the window.”
The MVRC is currently giving priority to the Energy Breakthrough in its initial display, as the organisation continues to seek more volunteers to help run the event.
One of Maryborough’s largest annual events, Ms Curry said Energy Breakthrough requires between 700 and 1000 volunteers to run smoothly.
“There’s a wide range of volunteer roles with Energy Breakthrough — there’s something for everyone,” she said.
“While some roles require physical effort such as marshalling, other roles are more passive such as judging student presentations and office tasks.”
If your community organisation needs promotion, or if you are interested in putting something back into the community, the former Pyrenees Premium Cuts building will be staffed from 11.30 am until1 pm each Thursday and the MVRC can be contacted by phone at 0497 667 480.
