Certificates were given out to 26 nominees from across the shire as part of this year’s Youth Fest.

Young blood took centre stage last Friday in the Central Goldfields Shire as part of the 2023 Youth Fest celebrations — with around 30 nominees recognised for their achievements.

Earlier this year, the council’s Youth team asked representatives from schools, community groups, sports groups, employers, volunteer groups and individuals to nominate a young person aged 10 to 25 years, in recognition of their contributions to the wider community.

These contributions included volunteering, participation in the community, academic performance and sporting achievements.

With a total of 29 nominations, these noteworthy young people, were given certificates on November 17, as part of the youth-focused event.

“I am so proud of our youth and it’s critical that we celebrate them because they are our future leaders,” councillor Grace La Vella said.

“This group of young people, are just amazing and they’re so proactive.”

Councillor Wayne Sproull, who was also present on the day, said the event was a crucial fixture for the community.

“We want to uplift our youth in this way so we can make sure their contributions are publically recognised and that then reinforces their importance within our community — it’s good to have a standalone event, for the youth,” he said.
