Youth Plan underway in Mount Alexander
The Mount Alexander Shire Council is inviting the community to have their say on the services, programs, opportunities and challenges that affect young people aged 12-25.
The Mount Alexander Shire Council is inviting the community to have their say on the services, programs, opportunities and challenges that affect young people aged 12-25.
The feedback will be used to inform a new Youth Plan, which will outline council’s commitment to supporting young people through its youth programs, initiatives, and events over the next four years.
Through community consultation, council is aiming to better understand:
The needs, issues and challenges facing young people and their families
The gaps in local services
How the shire could be a better place for young people and their families
Council is inviting input from three different cohorts within the community — young people, parents and carers, and youth service providers.
The surveys have been developed in partnership with young people in council’s Youth Advisory Group.
Advisory group member Billy Lister said the consultation is an opportunity for young people in Mount Alexander Shire to share their experiences.
“I encourage young people to fill out the youth survey because it will ensure that their voices are heard within our community,” he said.
“The findings will be a good way for council and the Youth Advisory Group to understand what people in our community want.
“Previously, findings from the survey have led to projects and programs such as the COscars Film Festival and much more.”
Council’s manager community partnerships, Alanna Cooper, said the Youth Plan is a good opportunity to hear directly from families about what young people need.
“Council is committed to understanding what’s important for young people and their families, and making improvements that affect positive change,” she said.
“Youth is a critical time for intervention when it comes to improving social, emotional and health outcomes.
“Our Youth Plan will also inform the collaborative work we do with our key partners from our local children and youth network, Bulortj.
“Before we write the plan, we want to hear from you about what’s needed to provide accessible, connected, inclusive and safe services for young people.
“How can we work better together? Are there any gaps in our services? What issues and challenges do you face?
“I encourage you to have your say so we can take the steps needed to support our young people.”
To have your say, visit www.shape.mountalexander.vic.gov.au and complete a short survey.
Feedback closes on Sunday, August 25.
